US Government Employees Banned From Using TikTok.

Speaker of the US House of Representatives Nancy Pelosi has supported the inclusion in the debate of the federal government’s funding of the bill approved by the upper house of the Senate this week, which prohibits the employees of the US federal government from using the TikTok platform owned by China.

A spokeswoman for Pelosi said she supports including the TikTok provision in next week’s House debate.

Pelosi’s support, along with that of Kevin McCarthy, the leader of the Republican majority in the House, greatly increases the chances of passing the federal government’s budget.

The Senate on Wednesday voted in favor of a bill written by Republican Senator Josh Hawley, which would ban government employees from using the TikTok app on government computers and phones.

It was the latest move by US lawmakers to clamp down on Chinese-owned companies amid US national security concerns that Beijing could use the device as a form of espionage.
