The most difficult point in the negotiations between Ethiopia and TPLF

The second phase of the talks between the Ethiopian government and the TPLF in Nairobi looks like they will take a long time after they faced new challenges.

The talks, which are part of the military officers of both sides, were supposed to be concluded yesterday, but so far there has been no official news from the parties.

The reports said that the most difficult point that has not been resolved so far is “the disarmament of the TPLF group” which the rebel group has set conditions for doing so.

TPLF wants Eritrean troops to leave Tigray soon, according to an Ethiopian army official.

“The disarmament of the related article has been hindered by a demand from the TPLF group that wants the Eritrean people to leave Tigray as soon as possible,” said the official who did not want to be named.

Also, the demands of the TPLF as part of these talks are to first restore basic services and that their people receive immediate assistance.

This issue comes at a time when the TPLF is facing pressure from outside, which is that they are not in a hurry to lay down their arms, which is what the central government of Ethiopia wants.
