The Vice President of Malawi was jailed after being found guilty of corruption

The Vice President of Malawi, Saulos Klaus Chilima, has been arrested, after the end of an investigation into allegations of corruption by the anti-corruption office of that country.

In a national address in June, Malawi President Lazarus Chakwera stripped Chilima of his powers pending a corruption investigation.

But at that time the president – who has launched an anti-corruption campaign – said he did not have the constitutional authority to suspend Chilima or remove him from the post of vice president.

The anti-corruption agency accused Chilima of being rewarded for helping Xaviar Limited and Malachitte FZE, two companies linked to British businessman Zuneth Sattar, to award contracts to the government. Malawi.

“I don’t have any details to give.” We will allow the court to proceed,” Chilima told reporters outside the court after being granted bail, according to media reports.

In January of this year, the president of Malawi, Chakwera, dissolved his entire cabinet, after allegations of corruption against three ministers in office.
