The opposition accused President Ismail Omar Guelle of promising military support to Somaliland to help in the ongoing war in Lasanod.

“In recent days, there is shameful propaganda on social media against Djibouti accusing my country of taking part in what is going on in Laas Anood. There are merely fabricated lies to disrupt Djibouti’s relation with its neighbours” Ali said

The opposition said that President Muse Bihi has sent military officers to Djibouti to convey Somaliland’s request to help Djibouti in the renewed situation in the Sool region.

Djibouti and its government have always promoted peace in the region and never interfered in any of the internal affairs of our neighbours, the minister said.

Somaliland broke away from Somalia in 1991 but has not gained widespread international recognition for its independence. The region has been mostly peaceful while Somalia has grappled with three decades of civil war.
