Erdogan and Putin agreed to send Russian wheat for free to countries including Somalia

Turkish President Tayyip Erdogan said on Friday that he has agreed with his Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin that Russian wheat that passes through the Black Sea will go to poor African countries for free.

“When I spoke to Vladimir Putin on the phone, he told me ‘let’s send it to countries like Djibouti, Somalia and Sudan for free’ – and we agreed,” Erdogan said in a speech to businessmen in Istanbul.

This came after Moscow on Wednesday resumed participation in the wheat export agreement between the United Nations and Turkey, which ended four days of non-cooperation in the export of this foodstuff from Ukrainian ports.

Earlier this week, Putin said that even if Russia withdraws from this agreement again, he will replace all the wheat quotas intended for the “poorest countries” for free with the one that is in reserve for Russia.
