Mogadishu:Al-Shabaab IED Attack Kills 20, Injures 10 Café in Dayniile

Mogadishu, [17 August 2024] —  In  a devastating attack today, at least 20 people were killed and 10 others seriously injured after two explosive devices detonated at a café in the Dayniile district of Mogadishu. The café, a popular gathering spot for police and military officials, was targeted at approximately 2:15 PM local time.

The attack, carried out by the militant group Al-Shabaab marks the second deadliest incident in Mogadishu this month, following the Liido Beach massacre earlier in August. The explosions have left the community reeling, with the death toll expected to rise as many of the injured are in critical condition.

The target of the bombing was a café in the Daynile district a popular hangout spot for police and military officials.

Due to the severity of the injuries, the death toll is expected to rise.

This is Al-Shabaab’s second largest attack on Mogadishu since the Liido Beach attack earlier this month in August.

The federal government based in Mogadishu has not yet commented on the attack.
