President Hassan Sheikh met with the National Committee to Combat Illegal Money and Terrorist Financing.

Mogadishu, November 06, 2022; The President of the Federal Republic of Somalia, Mr. Hassan Sheikh Mohamud, who met with the National Committee for Combating Money Laundering and Countering the Financing of Terrorism (AML/CFT) emphasized the acceleration of the national plan to disable financial resources that finance brutal acts. Al-Shabaab members.

 

The President spoke about the fight against al-Shabaab terrorists in the economic, ideological and military fields, and pointed out the important role of Somali businessmen in helping the Somali people tolerate the massacre, destruction and colonization by the terrorists.

 

This National Committee, which was established in 2016, is united by the country’s economic, security and judicial institutions, while they informed the President about the awareness of Somali businessmen against terrorism, and pointed out how to reduce extortion. The goods used to be taken from Somali traders.

The President of the Republic reiterated his decision to deal with businessmen who are dealing with terrorists, and he said that those who give money to terrorists have played a role in the bombings and massacres of students, mothers, intellectuals and the Somali people in general.

Also, the President ordered the addition of the financial risk elimination plan, to prepare the country to pass the assessment of the Middle East and North African Financial Threat Organization (MENAFATF).

 

The meeting was attended by Prime Minister Hamze Abdi Barre, the Ministers of the Federal Government of Somalia, Finance, Justice, Internal Security, Trade and Industry, the Director General of the National Intelligence Agency, the Governor of the Central Bank, the Attorney General, the Director of the Adda Financial Reports (FRC).
